How to upgrade your virtual hardware versions?

More recent virtual hardware versions support more features than older versions. For this reason, it may be necessary to upgrade the virtual hardware version for a virtual machine. Once the hardware version has been upgraded, it cannot be downgraded.

Prior to upgrading the hardware version of a VM, it is recommended to create a snapshot of the VM.
